How to Choose the Perfect Getting Ready Location

Jul 26, 2020

The getting ready portion of the wedding day is often one of my favorites. There is so much excitement and pure joy leading up to you marrying the love of your life. I love capturing bridal details, getting ready and a few bridal portraits at the start of the wedding day. Where you get ready really sets the tone for the look and feel of your wedding gallery so It’s important to get ready in a space that you absolutely love! Below are some tips to consider when choosing a getting ready space.

LIGHT

Windows, windows, windows! This is key to creating beautiful getting ready portraits, especially if your photographer is a natural light photographer, like myself! Having window light truly makes all the difference, and having multiple, big windows is a major plus!!

LOCATION

Often times venues will have a bridal suite to get ready in, but if yours doesn’t, or if the space doesn’t fit your vision there are plenty of other great options out there!! Of course you can always consider getting ready at a family members house if it’s in close distance to the venue, but in times where that isn’t available either, consider looking at Airbnbs! An Airbnb will give you more space to get ready in with your girls than a hotel. You will also have some more control over the look and decor in your images.

SPACE

If you can, choose a space that is free of clutter and distractions. Or, if you know there many be some furniture in the way of your getting ready space, move it ahead of time that way we don’t have to use up our precious time moving it on your wedding day.

STYLE

I want you to love your photos, so think about what your style is, and if the getting ready room can match that! I will do absolutely everything I can to make sure you love your photos! But if you want all of your getting ready portraits to be light and airy and the walls of the room are dark brown with no natural light, consider a different space to get ready in!
